Milton Keynes Brass Impresses at Welsh Open Brass Band Entertainment Championship
On Saturday 17 February , the Welsh Open Brass Band Entertainment Championship witnessed an outstanding performance by Milton Keynes Brass, leaving a lasting impression on both judges and the audience. The band’s captivating theme, “Kings and Queens,” featured repertoire that showcased their musical competence. Under the direction of conductor Matt Brown, Milton Keynes Brass presented “The Crowning” by Jonathan Bates, “Castell Caerfyrddyn” by Alex McGee, a stunning solo performance on Soprano Cornet by Martin Groves of Mozart’s “The Queen of the Night Aria,” from “The Magic Flute”, “The Boy King” by Jonathan Bates, and Grieg’s “In the Hall of the Mountain King.”
Dreaming of Christmas
Saturday 9 December saw the much anticipated joint concert between MK Community Choir and Milton Keynes Brass partly due to interference from Covid and a broken heating system which saw the concert postponed.

Milton Keynes Brass recently had the pleasure of performing at Loughton Manor First School's May Fayre fete gig on Saturday, 20 May 2023. The sun shone brightly, warming both the atmosphere and our new hats! The band delighted the audience with a selection of crowd-pleasing favourites, including "Blaydon Races," "Carmen Fantasy," "Feelin Good," and "Bat Out of Hell."
Milton Keynes Brass make a welcome return to Abington Park, Northampton
Performing on the bandstand at Abington Park in Northampton is an opportunity that Milton Keynes Brass always look forward to, and it often attracts large crowds. Although we were given a much better date in mid May this year (following the icy 1 or 2 degrees at the beginning of April last year!), the forecast was rain. However, the local crowds didn’t let us down, and even brought the sunshine with them.
Milton Keynes Brass 10 piece band perform at the Big Coronation Lunch
Sunday 7 May saw the first outing for our 10 piece band at the Big Coronation Lunch. With over 500 people attending to enjoy the sunshine, mobile farm, fire engine and a picnic whilst listening to the band. The interval saw the band choosing between ice cream or coffee.

MK Brass compete in the London and Southern Counties Region contest
Like hundreds of brass bands all over the country, on 18 March MK Brass travelled to The Gordon Craig Theatre in Stevenage, to compete at the qualifiers for The National Brass Band Championships of Great Britain.
Milton Keynes Brass perform at the Open University Graduation Ceremony
Playing for two of the Open University graduation ceremonies was the band’s first 10 piece performances of 2023. A couple of rehearsals beforehand left us feeling confident for the mammoth blow ahead. Held at the amazing Milton Keynes Theatre, the auditorium was almost full and it was quite daunting playing to such a large crowd as a smaller group.

A fantastic day was had by all at Milton Keynes Brass on Sunday in preparation for the London and Southern Counties Area Competition on 18 March.

Milton Keynes Brass achieved second place and also won awards for Best Bass Section and Best Cornet for Principal Cornet Matt Ball. With three weeks remaining until our Area Contest, a chance to improve the piece some more there are exciting times ahead.
Milton Keynes Brass welcome new members ahead of the Regional Brass Band Championships in March
Milton Keynes Brass are pleased to announce that Shaun Pope and Luke Colvin have recently joined the band on 1st Baritone and EEb Bass respectively. With Kathy Gifford on the Solo Cornet bench and Paul Fensom returning from Norway to help on Percussion, the band is looking forward to the Regional Brass Band Championships in March.
Milton Keynes Brass return to Hanslope Church for their annual Christmas concert
We returned to Hanslope Church for their annual Christmas concert on Saturday 3 December and were joined by the Hanslope School Choir.
The church was full, but we managed to fit in a special guest from the North Pole who delivered some early Christmas presents to the children there.
A busy day for the band, spreading Christmas cheer
Midway through the Christmas build-up, the band had a very busy Sunday.
After many requests from Milton Keynes and further afield we had to prioritise our regular performances and returned to Milton Keynes Village for the Christmas Lantern Parade.
While the rest of the band was in the cold playing for the Parks Trust, 6 players were keeping warm with hot chocolate and mulled wine inside at the village hall.
