Our latest ‘summer’ band job was to play on Saturday, 18 June at Walton Community Council’s summer fayre. I say summer job, as following the heatwave the day before, Saturday was a shock to the system. But…it didn’t dampen our spirits or the audience that gathered to watch our performance.
We played a few favourites which have gone down particularly well at other recent concerts, including The Floral Dance, A Disney Fantasy, Don’t Stop Me Know and James Bond 007 – all crowd-pleasers! And there was a world premiere of Sweet Caroline, arranged by our Flugel Horn player (and Band Chairman), Dave Lewis. The band also performed Silverado for the first time, a piece you can expect to hear more from the band in the next few months.
We also had a few soloists showing off their talents – on Trombone, Martin Wakley played Blue Jeans and on Euphonium, Cliff Wilkinson with Blaydon Races.
Our next outdoor performance is on Sunday, 3 July (2pm to 4pm) – Bands on the Green at Church Green Road in Bletchley. This is free for anyone to come and watch. So, pack a picnic and some sun cream as we’re definitely due some better weather next time around. If not – we’ll probably get Singing in the Rain out to play!
