Milton Keynes Brass perform at the Open University Graduation Ceremony

Playing for two of the Open University graduation ceremonies was the band’s first 10 piece performances of 2023.

A couple of rehearsals beforehand left us feeling confident for the mammoth blow ahead. Held at the amazing Milton Keynes Theatre, the auditorium was almost full and it was quite daunting playing to such a large crowd as a smaller group.

As you would imagine, the event was incredibly formal, with a strict running order and the band played a combination of lighter entertaining music as well as more formal ceremonial music such as “Trumpet Voluntary”, “Hornpipe” from “Water Music”, “Trumpet Tune and Air” and “Te Deum” on loop while the procession made their way to the stage. We finished with “Congratulations” and we helped make it a special day for all the very proud graduates.
