Milton Keynes Brass put in a red hot performance at Hindhead Knoll

We paid our second visit of the summer to Hindhead Knoll on Sunday, 21 August 2022 as guests of Walton Community Council.

This time, the weather was a lot kinder to us with glorious sunshine throughout the afternoon – thankfully, the band recently invested in new hats to keep us feeling and looking cool (well, we think so!) throughout our two-set performance.

Our first half featured several crowd favourites, such as the Floral Dance, Disney Fantasy, Soul Bossa Nova (Quincy Jones music featured in the Austin Powers movie) and the Can Can from Orpheus in the Underworld. We also had Martin Groves, our Soprano Cornet playing a beautiful piece called Let Freedom Ring.

Following a well-deserved ice cream break, the band kicked off the second half with Famous British Marches before featuring another soloist – Cliff Wilkinson with Blaydon Races. The band then slowed things down with some wonderful playing of a really beautify piece – A Nightingale Sang In Berkeley Square before upping the tempo with a recently arranged piece for the band – Neil Diamond’s Sweet Caroline.

The band concluded the afternoon with music from Shostakovich Waltz no. 2 from Jazz Suite and finishing off with Breezin’ Down Broadway – as the name suggests this features a number of songs – Another Opening, Another Show; There’s No Business Like Show Business; Get Me To The Church On Time; That’s Entertainment and 76 Trombones.

The sun brought out a very appreciative crowd who I’m sure enjoyed the afternoon as much as we did. We look forward to being back as guests of Walton Community Council in 2023.
